Elon Musk's Starlink is in talks with two Philippine telecommunications companies about deploying its superfast satellite internet in a country beset by bad connections and slow speeds.
Transpacific Broadband Group International Inc. is looking for a partner for its satellite broadband project, which is expected to debut in 2022. It signed an agreement with operator ABS Global Ltd. for a low-earth orbit satellite station in Pampanga province, north of the city, according to a statement.
Low-earth orbit satellite technology, according to a stock exchange filing, offers a mix of affordability, speed, flexibility, ease-of-setup, and a 27-millisecond low-latency bandwidth.
The Philippines is ranked 72nd in the world for mobile internet speed and 64th for fixed broadband, according to the Speedtest Global Index.
